Bahrain’s Capital Municipal Council is pushing a BD 500 monthly fine on long-delayed construction projects to tackle urban eyesores. Owners would get prior warnings, with exemptions in cases like legal or inheritance disputes.Projects left unfinished for over a year could also double as regulated ad spaces.But is BD 500 enough to move the needle on multimillion developments?

15 Year Sentence
A man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined BD 10,000 for smuggling 1.2kg of marijuana into Bahrain via post.Customs flagged the parcel through X-ray screening, leading to his arrest during collection.Authorities later found seeds, a scale, and packaging tools, along with digital evidence on his phone. He was convicted of importation, trafficking, and personal use charges.

Centuries-old mosques and cemeteries across Bahrain are set to be restored under a multi-million-dinar programme.The year-long project will upgrade key sites while preserving their cultural and archaeological value.Led by the Jaffari Waqf in coordination with BACA, it’s one of the most ambitious heritage efforts in recent years.Landmarks like Nabih Saleh Mosque and Hoora Cemetery are among those earmarked for revival.
